Steps to Replace a Light Fixture

  • Turn Off Power at the Breaker:

    • Unscrew any covers or decorative parts to access the mounting hardware.
    • Disconnect the fixture from the electrical box by removing screws or nuts.
  • Disconnect the Wires:

    • Remove the wire connectors and disconnect the old wires (black, white, and ground).

  • Attach the Mounting Bracket (if required):

    • Install the mounting bracket to the electrical box using screws if your new fixture has one.
  • Connect the Wires:

    • Match the fixture wires to the electrical box wires:

      • White (neutral) to white wire
      • Green or bare copper (ground) to the ground wire or screw
  • Secure the Fixture:

    • Push the wires back into the electrical box.
    • Attach the new fixture to the mounting bracket or directly to the electrical box.
  • Install Light Bulbs and Cover:

    • Insert the bulbs and attach any decorative covers or shades.
  • Turn Power Back On and Test:

    • Restore power at the breaker.
    • Test the fixture to ensure it works properly.
  • Adjust or Secure as Needed:
