Steps to Replace a Faucet

  • Gather Tools and Materials:

    • Wrenches, pliers, plumber’s tape, bucket, putty knife, and the new faucet kit.
  • Turn Off the Water Supply:

    • Shut off the valves under the sink or turn off the main water supply.
    • Open the faucet to release any remaining water pressure.
  • Disconnect Water Supply Lines:

    • Place a bucket under the sink to catch water.
    • Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the hot and cold water lines.
  • Remove the Old Faucet:

    • Unscrew the nuts holding the faucet to the sink.
    • Cut through old caulk or putty with a putty knife, if necessary, and lift the old faucet out.
  • Clean the Sink Surface:

    • Scrape off any old sealant or residue around the faucet holes for a smooth installation.
  • Install the New Faucet:

    • Insert the faucet through the mounting holes in the sink or countertop.
    • Secure the faucet with washers and mounting nuts from below.
  • Connect the Water Supply Lines:

    • Attach the hot and cold water lines to the corresponding valves and tighten securely.
    • Apply plumber’s tape to threaded connections if needed to prevent leaks.
  • Check for Leaks:

    • Turn the water supply back on and run the faucet.
    • Check all connections for leaks and tighten as needed.
  • Apply Sealant (if required):

    • If the faucet requires it, apply a thin layer of plumber’s putty or silicone around the base to prevent water from seeping under the faucet.
