Steps to Replace a Faucet
Gather Tools and Materials:
- Wrenches, pliers, plumber’s tape, bucket, putty knife, and the new faucet kit.
Turn Off the Water Supply:
- Shut off the valves under the sink or turn off the main water supply.
- Open the faucet to release any remaining water pressure.
Disconnect Water Supply Lines:
- Place a bucket under the sink to catch water.
- Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the hot and cold water lines.
Remove the Old Faucet:
- Unscrew the nuts holding the faucet to the sink.
- Cut through old caulk or putty with a putty knife, if necessary, and lift the old faucet out.
Clean the Sink Surface:
- Scrape off any old sealant or residue around the faucet holes for a smooth installation.
Install the New Faucet:
- Insert the faucet through the mounting holes in the sink or countertop.
- Secure the faucet with washers and mounting nuts from below.
Connect the Water Supply Lines:
- Attach the hot and cold water lines to the corresponding valves and tighten securely.
- Apply plumber’s tape to threaded connections if needed to prevent leaks.
Check for Leaks:
- Turn the water supply back on and run the faucet.
- Check all connections for leaks and tighten as needed.
Apply Sealant (if required):
- If the faucet requires it, apply a thin layer of plumber’s putty or silicone around the base to prevent water from seeping under the faucet.
